ENROUTE 2 @ Sentosa

Proudly brought to us by dance promoters Kinemat and 3 legs, presenting an impressive line-up of 33 DJs and 9 Live Acts, Enroute 2 was deemed by critics and clubbers alike as ' The Outdoor Party event of 2001' . And it definitely did not disappoint.

Held in 2 air conditioned warehouses and an open air rooftop, enroute boasted 3 different dance arenas: progressive/trance, techno/house and chillout/drum N Bass. There were also 4 zones, that included street stalls, relaxation therapy, fire twirlers, aura readers, henna tatoo, graffiti and performance artists to mention a few. All to fill your senses.

The crowd, mainly made up of the Zouk/underground types and partying tourists, were flowing in by 12 midnight. Dress code that night was totally D.I.Y. with many coming in beach bermudas and bikinis, costumes and clubwear, ready to soak in the vibes of the night's partying. With the earlier party-goers treated to splendid performances by the local bands, it was no wonder when the Bushmen went on stage to wrap up the night's live acts, the dancefloor went wild, grooving their bodies to the reggae beats.

Local DJs: Cher, Stingray, Yukun, Andy , Adrian and George all put up impressive performances in the progressive/trance arena later into the night. Cher's set was one to note, with his deep progressive style which sent the crowd into rushes of adrenalin. When Guest DJ Kasey Taylor took over, the crowd simply went wild. Kasey pumped it up with his highly progressive yet heavy pounding set, certainly living up to his name as one of Australia's most prominent progressive DJs. By then, the progressive room was already packed to the brim. Fortunately, there were 2 levels in the warehouse, which accomodated to the clubbers' dancing space. Jap DJ Seiji Funaki also rocked the dancefloor, with his ever climatic deep and electronic style.

Over at the techno/house room, the local jocks were also spinning their best! With a line-up of Louis, FatBlaqfish, Spencer, Brendon P, Jonathan Yeo, Sean Lai, DNF and Marvin Kam, it was no wonder the techno/house arena was blowing with heavy house techno beats and a crowd that was totally partying their hearts out. Mourad Sliti played a fantasic heavy set with a dose of funk and soul, blending the sound of deep house/techno and African tribal rhythms. And Guest DJ Darren Price of Underworld rounded up a night of great music and vibes with his aural assaults of hard, fast yet heartwarming techno, bringing much comparisons to DJ Carl Cox's style.

Over at the chillout/drum N Bass arena, it was a much anticipated reunion of the ex- Insomnia DJ crew and their loyal fans. Guerilla and Kinemat were the key names that night, with the likes of Drum N Bass DJs Ashidiq, Kiat, rendie, Hasnor and Ramesh to name a few. DJ Kheng stood out with his laidback, jazzy, chillout Ibiza sunset tunes with deep basslines. When casually asked, Kheng described his set as a fusion of new and old music influences. He was pleased with the present clubbing crowd, describing them as matured and more receptive to new music styles. Guest DJ 4Hero shone too, with his set, which consisted of drum N Bass with acoustic instrumentation.

Enroute 2 was a success, definitely a great fulfillment of dance music pleasure and a night of true fun and drug-free entertainment. One peeve might have been the various rooms being too warm and stuffy at times, due to overcrowdedness and weak air-conditioning.

But overall, it was a great party and I am sure other punters that night could not agree more. Kudos to the Kinemat and 3 Legs crew once again for bringing us another successful enroute series, which was as good as the previous outing (held at Altivo Bar), if not, even better!
